Memjet-Based Oce Velocity Targeted at High-Volume Color Users

Océ, part of the Canon group of companies, revealed at drupa on May 3 that it plans to introduce a wide-format color printer based on Memjet technology (see “Memjet Reveals a Pair of Significant New Partnerships at drupa”). The new device has been dubbed Project Velocity. Nick Gale, manager of media relations and international communications for Océ, shared with us more information about the two firms’ partnership and Velocity itself.

Memjet hails successful Drupa

May 24, 2012

Memjet went into Drupa earlier this month with a handful of mid-size print equipment partners, including Delphax for its waterfall inkjet technology. But it was also facing scepticism on whether its single pass digital solution was economically feasible on a large scale.

It came out of the two-week exhibition firmly in the commercial printing mainstream, thanks to partnership agreements with Fuji/Xerox and Canon/Océ.

Memjet partnerships may boost Waterfall

Memjet unveiled two partnerships at Drupa this month with the potential to accelerate the mainstream adoption of its high-speed, single-pass inkjet technology.

The manufacturer’s Waterfall printheads, which are capable of printing 14 A1 pages a minute at 1,600dpi, powered devices from both Canon/Océ and Fuji Xerox at the show.

Memjet makes major move into market

Fresh from the resolution of the $600m lawsuit between its major investor and Kia Silverbrook’s research arm, Memjet is now signing up partners for its superfast inkjet technology.

So far Canon/Océ, Fuji Xerox and Xante have all signed on for the radical new print technology in wide format application, with Toshiba among those using it for desktop production printing and others signing up for label printing applications. Major brands including Lenovo and LG have also signed up.
