Better. Faster. Stronger. Memjet Partners Set the Precedent for 2019 Print Industry Trends

When Memjet declared its new slogan, “Go build great,” our OEM partners heard the call. In 2018, our OEM partners utilized the speed, quality, and affordability of Memjet’s printing technologies to develop innovative printing solutions.

As we enter the New Year, we review how these solutions have gained momentum and become a vital resource in each of the markets they serve.

The Evolution of Labels and Packaging

The pace of change in the label and packaging industry continues to move at a fast pace. So do the opportunities in this market. In Digital Labels and Packaging’s annual year in review, writer and industry analyst Sean Smyth states:

“This list showcases technologies that solve customer pain points, allowing digital packaging printing and finishing to be more viable. These examples help adopters make money, which is what makes technology successful. They enable new applications, helping brands and retailers use packaging in new ways — firmly pushing the adoption of digital print onwards.”

He goes on to include two Memjet-powered solutions in his annual review of the top-ten label and packaging products. First was the Gallus Smartfire, an easy-to-use, affordable press that opens up label production to a wider audience — from commercial printers looking to augment their review to brand owners who want more supply control.

In addition to the Gallus Smartfire, on the list was Memjet’s first flexible packaging solution, the Rigoli MVZ950 flexible packaging press. Flexible packaging is a growing segment, and this low-cost solution enables users to produce the colorful, low- to middle-run lengths of customized flexible packaging that are in demand in today’s market.

Also serving the growing flexible packaging segment is another Memjet partner, AstroNova. At PackExpo, the company unveiled a breakthrough new solution that enables AstroNova printers to digitally print food-friendly, heat-sealable flexible packaging materials.

High-Volume Label Production

In other label developments, long-time Memjet partner Colordyne Technologies became one of the first OEM partners to implement Memjet’s DuraLink technology. Leveraging the modular design and scalability of the DuraLink printhead technology, Colordyne developed its second-generation 3600 Series AQ technology as a retrofit, a stand-alone solution and an engine integration kit.

The kit allows Colordyne to offer development support and resources to other manufacturers who wish to jumpstart their integration of digital inkjet printing using Memjet’s DuraLink technology.

Pushing the Envelope — And Beyond

In 2018, Memjet OEMs also created printers with capabilities that enhance traditional envelope printing and produce a new range of customized printed products. Adding these types of service is key to a print provider’s success.

Olivia Calhoon wrote in Digital Publishing Solutions:

“It’s also important for print providers to consider tools that support high-volume direct mail providers for overall efficiency, productivity, and postage discounts to optimize the value of each mail piece.”

An envelope printer that excels at adding value is the award-winning W+D Halm i-Jet. This envelope printer is now the fastest on the market, capable of producing 32,000 envelopes per hour. Not only is it fast, its high-quality color and die-cut capabilities also expand creative possibilities for brands and printers.

The MACH 6 from Neopost is the company’s next evolution in its short-run, digital color-printing portfolio. The new features of the MACH 6 enable printers to run materials that were previously not possible with a solution this size, including stuffed envelopes, chipboard, corrugated cardboard and folding cartons. Printing on these new products expands the print provider’s product line.

Building A Successful 2019

Memjet is proud to be included in these innovative printing solutions and, more importantly, to help print providers of all types succeed. We look forward to more innovation and more customer success in 2019.
