Memjet-Powered Printers Create New Opportunities for Carpet Manufacturers

OEM partner Printing Innovation provides a fast, easy way to label carpets and textiles

SAN DIEGO — As Domotex USA, the largest flooring event in the world, gets underway in Atlanta, Georgia, Memjet announces today the iCUBE label series from Printing Innovation is transforming the way labels are produced for carpets and textiles. The iCUBE label series enables carpet and textile manufacturers to produce their own customized labels in-house, saving time and money and improving efficiency in their textile manufacturing processes.

During the ready-made garment phase of the carpet manufacturing process, the manufacturer prints the barcodes, images and relevant details directly onto the label. This simplifies the process, eliminating the time and cost of producing separate bar code labels and storing separate consumables.

Moreover, because all the manufacturing details are printed directly on the label, manufacturers ensure that the correct product is shipped to the customer.

The iCUBE label series makes it easy for carpet manufacturers to print colorful, quality labels with variable print information. Its low capital cost, combined with its small footprint and ease of use, allows the iCUBE label printer to be easily integrated into the process of any textile manufacturer.

Transforming Carpet Label Production

Sercan Tuna, CEO at Printing Innovation Middle East, said, “We have distributed the iCUBE to dozens of carpet manufacturers in the region and consistently see the positive business impact in-house label printing contributes to their operations. The iCUBE label series has transformed the way labels are produced for carpet and textile brand owners in Turkey and Middle East.”

Using the iCUBE label series, manufacturers no longer need to order large quantities of labels in advance or delay in waiting for a print-service provider to convert the labels. Producing labels as part of their own operations accelerates the production process because manufacturers can print as many labels as they require whenever they need them.

Hasan Bedir, director of Kartal Carpet and Trade Inc., said, “Under the old system, even though we needed only 30 labels, we had to order at least 250 labels. This was a financial burden, and it was causing the surplus label stock to increase. Thanks to the iCUBE, we are able to produce our labels and apply them to carpets quickly.”

Other customers also report the efficiency of the iCUBE is helping improve operations and customer satisfaction.

“We have integrated the iCUBE digital labeling machines into the garment department,” said Sami Daplan, managing director of Merinos Carpet and Trade Inc., who has been using the iCUBE for three years. “Printing the bar code onto the labels we produce for the carpet has never been easier.”

“Most importantly,” Daplan said, “under the old system, we ran the risk of sticking the wrong bar code label on the wrong carpet label. This caused huge mistakes in the shipping step. In the new system, this error has been reduced to zero, and therefore, we improved customer satisfactions and errors are now avoided.”

In addition to bar codes, the iCUBE printer enables carpet manufacturers to include colorful images, such as carpet designs, directly on the label.

Arif Ali Demir, general manager of Bayteks Carpet Inc., has also been using the iCUBE printer to produce labels in-house for over three years. “By integrating the digital carpet label machine into our SAP garment system,” said Demir, “we have eliminated the color mismatch between the labels, and we are able to instantly produce labels that include visuals of the carpet. In addition, this new system has helped us to speed up production by producing our glossy paper and self-adhesive labels within our organization.”

Inkjet Printing Technology

The technology behind this labeling success is Memjet’s VersaPass page wide digital color inkjet technology. These inkjet printheads fire millions of ink drops per second. Using printers that include these printheads, such as the iCUBE label series, manufacturers can produce labels faster and at a higher level of quality than the thermal transfer, laser, or scanning inkjet technologies of the past.

“The value of in-house label production is being fully realized in the carpet and textile sector,” said Russell Boa, senior vice president of sales at Memjet. “This industry recognizes that in-house label production with the iCUBE is simple and can have an enormous impact on their bottom line. Printing Innovation has done an exceptional job expanding the value of inkjet-powered printers in the region. We look forward to continued growth in 2019 and expanding into the US market.”
